Members of the North Oldham Fire Department shifted operations from their old Goshen Station to the new facility just across the street at 1660 KY Highway 1793 on November 1, 2004.  The completion of the project was delayed slightly due to weather problems last winter but came in very close to the targeted budget of $2.7 million.  The new facility has room for up to 10 fire apparatus, allows for “drive-through” capability for the larger rigs and has a vehicle exhaust system that promises to keep the interior cleaner and safer as well as a separate turnout gear room that helps keep contamination from transferring to or from the gear.

 Some of the other features of the facility include a state of the art fitness room with equipment suitable for both cardiovascular, strength and conditioning workout routines.  Office space, always at a premium before, is well designed and improves efficiency.  A 45’ training tower is provided that can be used for fire and technical rescue training evolutions.  Classroom facilities that will accommodate up to 50 students are also included.  The whole building was designed to allow us to expand our membership, primarily comprised of volunteers to meet our growth needs over the next 50 years.   

The building was designed by Cole & Russell Architects in Cincinnati Ohio and the project was started in August of 2003 after almost 7 years in planning.  It replaces an aging facility that was cramped, lacked space for administrative and training functions as well as storage for apparatus and equipment.  In fact, for the last 5 years, the Fire Chief’s office was in a small construction trailer behind the old building.  Our new facility fills a significant need for the department and is a gem in our community.  The North Oldham Fire Protection District funded the project with a bond issue.
