 Don joined North Oldham Fire Department in June, 2000 as a volunteer.  He was selected to the full-time position of Training & Fire Prevention Coordinator in November, 2000.  Originally from Louisville, Don served 20 years in the Navy, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8) in 1999.  While on active duty he spent 11 years as a member of Ashley River Fire Department in Charleston Heights, South Carolina.  Four of those years were as the department’s Training Officer.  He relocated in 1994 due to military transfer and became a member of Bonnie-Brook Fire Department in Beach Park, Illinois.  He served as an Apparatus Operator, Boat Operator and EMT until his retirement from the Navy brought him back to the Louisville area.  Since joining North Oldham he has been integral in forming NOFD’s water response capability and has been involved in apparatus acquisition and the design and construction of our new headquarters station.
